About Divar Island

Divar Island is one of Goa’s most distinctive destinations, offering visitors a glimpse of the state’s traditional village life, heritage and natural surroundings. Located across the Mandovi River from Old Goa and Ribandar, the island is known for its peaceful atmosphere and largely unhurried pace of life.

The island features traditional Goan homes, green fields, winding village roads, churches, temples and historic sites. Goa Tourism highlights the ruins of the ancient Saptakoteshwar temple, the Church of Our Lady of Compassion and the island’s traditional sluice gates among its attractions.

Getting to Divar is part of the experience. Visitors can take a ferry from the Ribandar ferry wharf or travel via Old Goa. Vehicles and two-wheelers can be taken across, making it possible to explore the island independently.

Divar is particularly suited to travellers interested in heritage, photography, village culture and scenic landscapes. Visitors can explore the island’s villages, stop at historic sites and enjoy views of the surrounding river and countryside.

Guided experiences are also available. Goa Tourism currently lists a Divar Island Exploration that includes historic locations, a boat ride and a feni-tasting experience. The listed experience costs ₹1,799 plus 18% GST per person and lasts four hours.

For travellers wanting to experience a quieter and more traditional side of Goa, Divar Island offers a refreshing alternative to the state’s busier tourist destinations.
